Revision Distractions

Today I am revising. I am getting near the end of this revision. Soon I will send it to my agent who will read it and let me know whether she wants me to change any little things before she submits it to editors.
I am considering this revision to be my last chance to make it perfect before editors see it and consider whether or not to make my manuscript into a book.

And suddenly I can't stop thinking about this great interview I heard with Lois Lowry.

Or about Rebecca, my 8th grader, and whether or not she will like high school next year.

And why the truck in the driveway next door never moves. Why doesn't anyone ever drive that truck anywhere? Is it broken? Has its owner (who doesn't actually live in the house, he only works for the family who lives there) gotten the flu?

And what is Frida thinking right now, sitting on this window seat with me? Is she hungry? Should I get her a softer pillow?

Distractions must be ignored so Eve and Jane can have their story finished. I know, I know.

I know.

'Bye.

  1. You'll make it. And the truck will still be there when you're done. Then you can go next door and ask.

  2. But you're making revisions for your agent! Isn't that uber-exciting?

  3. I know you can do it.
It's human nature to get distracted every so often. ;)

  4. ahh distraction. I understand them. For example, here I am reading blogs when I too should be revising my butt off. And as for that truck... I am with Barbara. As soon as you are done with this revision, go ask your neighbor if he even knows where the keys are.
